 YJK13: Trouble on Cloud City

Upgrading from the previous book by actually being based on Cloud City for most of it. Has the same problem as (a lot of) the books where nothing really happens and the (too many) characters are just there to narrate the plot. Also shares AM's love of obscure deep dives to things like the Jedi Prince books.

Lando is trying to get Cloud City up and running (again) as a theme park this time. He takes the twins and co. with him to let him know if the rides are fun for teenagers or something.

Then the other guy doing the project with him gets hucked into the clouds, and they spend the rest of the book not really figuring out what happened to him. Spoiler: It was the Black Sun. I guess bringing them back is better than doing another Imperial Remnant Super Weapon plot.

The real issue here is how little the twins (or their friends) actually do to move the plot along. Jacen gets dropped into the clouds (out of the same or a similar one to the one Luke fell down) and gets rescued by a flying-manta-ray-riding-circus-acrobats. Now, Jacen's whole stick is animals, and the good manta rays have to avoid getting attacked by bad manta rays, but he only vaguely Force suggests at them once. Not sure why we couldn't get a whole dragon rider sequence, or him trying to find a way for them to coexist or something.

Jaina mostly just follows Lando around while he talks to people and Lowie hacks some computers. Tenel Ka is...there? Anja sort of does internal conflict and worries about running out of drugs. Definitely could've done more to set her up for the last book, which will presumably hinge on her choosing the Solos over her hook ups.

13: A New Hope Radio Drama (1981)

ANH Radio Drama I've talked before about how the radio drama is my favorite adaptation of the OT. In many ways, it serves the role often played by a novelization by expanding on the original story moreso than the actual novels (particularly ANH). If you haven't listened, bounce over to Youtube: Or The Internet Archive  and have a listen. George Lucas cut the University of Southern California (his alma mater) a sweetheart dollar deal to license the story, music, and sound effects. Brian Daley (who wrote the Han Solo trilogy earlier) did the scripts. In the modern era of big budget podcasts and audiobooks, it's a little harder to express how freaking cool these were as a kid into Star Wars in the 90s (though the Jedi adaptation wasn't produced until 1996). How'd I Get Here? (I'm supposed to journal for ten minutes today.)

 As you might've saw on the other blog (no one reads this.) I'm doing a mental health calendar that work put out this month. Today is journaling. I've never been a big journaler in the traditional sense, I don't really think whatever random stuff I'm thinking or feeling that day is worth writing down and remembering. But, I've been doing these blog every day for almost a year and a half now, so jokes on me, I guess. Star Wars Classics began as a way to read something a little more relaxing in between the classics I was doing for the other blog. If you've followed along. It is, honestly, not really all that relaxing right now. The 1994-1995 class of  Star Wars  novels aren't very good. The Jedi Academy Trilogy is hamfisted, Courtship of Princess Leia is vaguely offensive and nonsensical,  Crystal Star  is just awkward, and Children of the Jedi  will hopefully be on my top 5 worst books for as long as I live.
